Joe and Ryan declare their love from the rooftops

There is something truly magical about a London rooftop proposal, especially when it combines history, privacy and timeless elegance. Joe and Ryan’s proposal at the Trafalgar St James was all of that and more, and it also marked a very exciting moment for us as one of the first proposals we have designed at this beautiful rooftop venue.

This trip was Joe and Ryan’s very first visit to the UK, and Ryan’s brief was wonderfully clear and heartfelt. He wanted something with a historic London view, completely private, simple and elegant, with the focus solely on the two of them and their love for one another. As they were staying at the hotel, the rooftop private dining room at St James Trafalgar felt like the most natural and meaningful choice. Elevated above the city, it offers breathtaking views across Trafalgar Square, with iconic landmarks such as Nelson’s Column and the National Gallery providing an unforgettable historic backdrop.

On the morning of the proposal, Ryan believed she was simply heading upstairs for breakfast. Little did she know that The One Romance team had already been in, quietly adding a touch of magic to the private dining room. We created an elegant walkway of fresh white roses placed softly around the room, leading the eye towards the incredible view. The table setting was refined and understated, perfectly in keeping with Joe’s vision. At first, Ryan simply thought it was a beautifully decorated room, unaware of what was about to unfold.

Once they were seated and settled, Joe gently took Ryan by the hand and led her towards the window, where London stretched out beneath them. With the historic skyline as their backdrop and the city slowly coming to life below, Joe asked Ryan to be his forever. It was an intimate, emotional moment that felt completely theirs.

Our fantastic photographer Paul Grace discreetly captured the proposal from a distance, allowing the moment to remain private and natural. After the “yes”, Joe and Ryan enjoyed a relaxed couples’ shoot around the rooftop, celebrating their engagement and their love story against one of London’s most iconic views.
