How I Find London’s Best Kept Proposal Secrets

“How do you keep finding all of these incredible places to propose?”

It is the question I get asked more than any other and the honest answer is simple.

I never stop looking.

Even when I do not have a proposal to plan, you will usually find me wandering around London anyway, meeting venue managers, walking the gardens of five-star hotels or slipping into spaces most people walk straight past without a second glance.

I do not do it because I have to. I do it because I genuinely love it.

There is nothing quite like standing in a hidden corner of a garden or a quiet room in a beautiful hotel and thinking “someone is going to get engaged here”.

Most people would simply admire the view. I am already working out where the candles would go, where the photographer could hide and how to make the whole moment feel completely effortless for the couple.

After more than ten years as a London proposal planner, it is just how my mind works now.

The Best Proposal Locations in London Are Not Always the Famous Ones

When people search online for proposal locations in London, the same handful of venues tend to come up again and again. They are beautiful for good reason and I love working with many of them.

But after planning luxury proposals across London and Europe for over a decade, I have learned that the most memorable proposals rarely come down to the venue alone. They come down to how personal it feels.

Sometimes that is a five-star hotel suite. Sometimes it is a private dining room tucked away from everyone else. Sometimes it is a secluded garden that feels like its own little world in the middle of one of the busiest cities on earth.

Those are the places that genuinely excite me, the ones that rarely show up on the first page of Google but leave clients saying, “I had no idea somewhere like this existed”.

Looking Beyond What Everyone Else Is Doing

Social media is wonderful for inspiration but it also means everyone ends up looking at the same proposal ideas, the same restaurants, the same rooftops and the same viewpoints.

That has never really been my approach. I still love creating proposals at London’s most iconic venues, but every couple deserves a setting that feels uniquely theirs rather than something copied from someone else’s Instagram grid.

That is why I spend so much time searching out new locations, building relationships with venues and exploring spaces that could one day become part of somebody’s story.

This week alone took me to three very different spots.

A pop-up beach bar in the centre of London!

A secret garden hidden in the middle of Mayfair.

A private garden near Holborn with a gated entrance so striking it stops you in your tracks.

I am not ready to share exactly where they are just yet. Some secrets are worth keeping until we have created a few unforgettable proposals there first but each visit reminded me why I still love this job after all these years. There is always somewhere new waiting to be discovered.

Why Venue Relationships Matter So Much

Clients usually see the finished proposal on Instagram. The candles, the flowers, the photographs, the happy tears.

What they do not see are the conversations that happen months beforehand, the meetings with hotel managers, the venue visits and the endless cups of coffee spent talking through ideas.

Those relationships, built over years rather than weeks, make all the difference. They let me understand exactly how a venue works, uncover spaces that are not always advertised and create proposals that feel seamless from start to finish.

Many of the venues I now work with started as nothing more than a friendly conversation and a shared love of creating unforgettable moments.

Every Venue Has a Couple Waiting for It

If there is one thing I have learned over the years, it is that there is no single perfect proposal location. There is only the perfect location for you.

Some couples dream of a grand historic building. Others picture a contemporary city skyline. Some want complete privacy while others love the buzz of a luxury hotel. Some simply want somewhere that does not feel like anyone else’s proposal.

That is why I never start with a venue. I start with the couple, your story, your personalities and the places that already mean something to you. Only once I understand that do I begin searching for the setting to match.

My friends tease me constantly because wherever we go, I cannot stop looking around. On holiday, walking through London after a meeting or having lunch somewhere new, I am always noticing the details: beautiful doorways, hidden courtyards, private terraces, gardens behind gates and elegant staircases that most people walk straight past.

You never know when one of those details will become the setting for somebody’s favourite memory.

That is probably why, after everything I have planned over the past twelve years, I still love what I do as much as ever. Every new venue is a new possibility, a new story waiting to be told and a new beginning for another couple.

As long as there are still hidden places left to discover in London and beyond, I do not think I will ever stop looking.

Frequently Asked Questions About Finding the Perfect Proposal Location

How do you find unique proposal locations in London?

I am constantly exploring London, meeting venue managers and building relationships with luxury hotels, private members’ clubs and exclusive venues across the city. Many of the locations I recommend are not places clients would necessarily find through a simple online search, which is exactly the point.

Can you recommend a proposal location based on our relationship?

Always. Every proposal I plan is completely bespoke. Before suggesting any venue, I take the time to get to know you as a couple, so I can recommend locations that genuinely suit your personalities, your style and the story you want to tell.

Do you only plan proposals in London?

No. London is where a large part of my work happens but I also plan luxury proposals across the UK and Europe. If you have a destination in mind, I would love to help bring it to life.

Do you have access to exclusive proposal venues?

Yes. Over more than a decade I have built strong relationships with luxury hotels, venues and private spaces across London and beyond, which often means I can recommend locations clients would never have found on their own.

I have no idea where to propose. Can you help?

Of course, and this is one of the most common reasons clients get in touch. Once we have talked through your ideas, your budget and your partner’s personality, I will curate a shortlist of proposal locations that feel completely personal to your story.

How far in advance should I book my proposal?

Ideally four to eight weeks gives us the best chance of securing exclusive venues and suppliers, although if you are planning something sooner, do get in touch. If there is a way to make it happen, I will find it.
