The Biggest Compliment We Ever Receive Isn’t a Five-Star Review
If you’ve ever visited our Google page, you’ll have noticed we’re proud of our five-star reviews. Every single one means the world to us.
But if I’m honest, it isn’t the stars I treasure most. It’s the words.
Every now and then, usually with a cup of tea in hand after a busy proposal season, I sit down and read through the reviews our couples have left over the years. It always reminds me why I started The One Romance in the first place.
Recently, something stood out to me. It wasn’t the compliments about beautiful flowers, luxury venues or candlelit settings, lovely as those are. It was that couples who’d all experienced completely different proposals kept saying the same things. Nobody prompted them to. It was simply how they felt.
“You made everything feel effortless.”
Planning a proposal should be exciting. But for most people it’s also nerve-racking. Will the weather behave? Will she suspect something? Will the venue be ready? Will the photographer be in the right place? What if something goes wrong?
Those are the questions that keep our clients awake at night. Our job isn’t simply to organise flowers or musicians it’s to carry those worries for you, so that by the time your proposal day arrives, you have just one job: to enjoy one of the most important moments of your life.
When a client tells us the whole experience felt effortless, I smile, because I know exactly how much planning happened behind the scenes to make it look that way.
“You listened.”
We’ve never offered fixed proposal packages, because no two couples are the same. Some dream of complete privacy; others want London’s skyline behind them. Some want an intimate moment with just the two of them; others want family waiting round the corner to celebrate afterwards.
Every proposal starts with a conversation. I want to know how you met, what makes your relationship unique, what your partner loves and what they’d absolutely hate. Only then do we start creating something that feels personal to you.
When clients tell us they felt truly listened to, that’s one of the greatest compliments we can receive.
“You kept us calm.”
This one is probably my favourite. After planning proposals for more than twelve years, I can tell you that almost everyone gets nervous even the most confident people.
I’ve had clients who couldn’t sleep the night before. Others convinced they’d forgotten the ring. Some who rewrote their proposal speech five times before finally getting down on one knee. Those nerves are completely normal, and one of the biggest parts of my role is simply being there to reassure you. Sometimes all someone needs to hear is, “you’ve got this.”
“We trusted you.”
This one never gets old. When you think about it, our clients are placing one of the biggest moments of their lives into our hands. That isn’t something I ever take for granted.
Every proposal involves months of planning, countless emails, supplier coordination, venue discussions and contingency plans that most couples never see. Trust isn’t something that’s given, it’s something that’s earned, on every single proposal.
It’s Never Just About the Proposal
One of our recent reviews summed everything up perfectly and reading it reminded me why I still love doing this after all these years.
Not because we create beautiful proposals, although I hope we do. Not because we work at some of the UK’s most stunning venues, although I’m incredibly grateful that we do. But because, for just a few hours, we become part of one of the most important chapters in someone else’s story. That is something I’ll never take for granted.
Thank You
To every couple who has trusted The One Romance over the past twelve years – THANK YOU. Thank you for inviting us into such a personal moment and for allowing us to help tell your story. And thank you to everyone who has taken the time to leave a review afterwards.
Those reviews mean far more than helping future clients find us. They remind us why we do what we do.
If you’re currently planning your own proposal and wondering whether working with a proposal planner is the right decision, I hope our couples’ words offer a little reassurance. Because at the end of the day, the greatest compliment we can ever receive isn’t a five-star review. It’s hearing that we helped create a memory you’ll treasure for the rest of your lives.
